LB Vince Redd: Chiefs Claim OLB Off Waivers by Adam Caplan of ScoutNFLNetwork.com, August 3, 2009 at 4:29pm ET
Vince Redd Profile
The Kansas City Chiefs have claimed OLB Vince Redd off of waivers from
the New England Patriots, a league source told Scout.com. Redd, who New
England signed as an undrafted free agent in 2008, was waived by the Patriots on
Sunday.
Redd (6-6, 260) played in five games and was inactive for one contest for New
England in 2008 after beginning the year on the club’s practice squad. He
recorded two solo tackles, a pass defensed and six special teams stops. He
originally entered the NFL as a rookie free agent with the Patriots in 2008.
The Elizabethton, Tennessee native tallied 63 tackles, 6.5 sacks and two INTs in
2007 at Liberty. Redd was a prep standout at Elizabethton High School,
registering 104 career tackles. He also lettered in basketball as well as track
and field.
Sources said Redd became expendable because New England is expected to play more
4-3 defensive fronts on defense this season.
The Chiefs are expected to run a 3-4 defensive scheme this season, and general
manager Scott Pioli signed Redd during his last season with the Patriots.
The Chiefs waived G Edwin Harrison to make room for Redd.. Harrison spent
the 2008 campaign on the Chiefs practice squad after entering the NFL as a
rookie free agent with Kansas City.
