Four star offensive guard prospect Alex Bullard from Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy talked about the decision by Notre Dame to retain Coach Charlie Weis. He reported, "I'm not surprised. I think he is a great coach and a great guy."
As for Bullard's knowledge of the internet rumor mill he said, "I heard the rumors, but I really did not buy into it. It was not going to affect me and my decision to go to Notre Dame."
Bullard has contested that the coaching staff was definitely a part of his decision to choose the Irish. He commented of the importance of the current staff, "It is part of it. Primarily I think the school, the history and everything about the school. I love all the coaches and think they are just great guys."
He went on to talk about what he hopes to do to help the Irish improve on their 2008 season. He explained, "I am going to do the best I can do to compete and contribute where I can contribute."
As for Bullard's relationship with the fellow commitments he said, "I have talked to some of them and a lot of them are going to the banquet this weekend. I will be going too." He went on to say of his visit coming up this weekend, "I am looking forward to hanging out with the guys. I have been a couple times but this will be the first time I get to hang out and interact with the guys."
When asked what the other commitments thought about the rumors concerning Weis he said, "I don't think any of them are buying into it. They are like me and they are just seeing what happens and trust it will work out."
One player that the Irish have shown interest in through the recruiting process is Bullard's teammate Thad McHaney, 6-4, 240 defensive end. Bullard commented on McHaney's recruiting status, "Thad (McHaney) committed to Ole Miss."
