Derek Barrett, 6-2, 290 pound defensive tackle from Mufreesboro-Oakland High School (Tenn.) most recently reported, “I am getting a lot of interest from Western Kentucky, South Florida, Duke, and Marshall.”
He said of Western Kentucky, “Their facilities are very nice.” He also listed the Hilltoppers as the team showing him the most interest at this time. Barrett commented, “I think the team showing the most interest is probably Western Kentucky. Because the coaches talk to me a bunch and tell me about all of their information and what they are going to do for their game plan.”
A new program that has most recently come into the picture is South Florida. Barrett said of the Bulls, “They have sent me some mail and they sent me a big media packet. They want me to come to a game.” As far as making a trip down to South Florida to watch a game he commented, “I will probably try.”
Right now things are going great for Barrett and his teammates. He reported, “I think our season is going well because our defense is playing very good. We do not let many people score many points and we are 7-0.” A lot of the success from his team has come from Barrett and his defensive teammates. He commented, “We have an athletic defense and our offense is playing well too.” As far as having success going into the postseason he explained, “I think playing hard and not giving up. I think we have to work hard at practice.”
