The Eagles were able to put on quite an exhibition on offense even without offensive leader, Alex Bullard, who was sitting out with a pinched nerve in his neck. Notre Dame Fighting Irish fans need not worry Bullard is healthy, but was sat out for precautionary reasons. Fans were able to take in a big performance from junior running back Josh Tate and sophomore Victor Caro. The young speedster, Victor Caro, helped the Eagles pull away with 23 carries 131 yards and two touchdowns. Tate added 55 yards on 8 carries as well for the Eagles.
One of the top prospects in the game was Brentwood (Tenn.) Academy defensive end Thad McHaney, 6-4, 240 pound tight end/defensive end. McHaney finished the game with two receptions for 21 yards and a score. He also had a good night at his defensive end spot. Right now McHaney boasts over a dozen offers from schools like Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, and Oregon.
For Smyrna they saw a noble effort from their own sophomore sensation Jeremiah Bryson, who had 119 yards on 22 carries resulting in one touchdown. The Bulldogs from Smyrna never really got things started until it was too late.
In a game that was supposed to feature some of the top talent for the class of 2009 many fans were impressed by the youngsters. Look out for Brentwood Academy and their young guns like sophomore running back Victor Caro, junior running back Josh Tate, and junior defensive tackle Ishmael Lewis. Also watch for Smyrna sophomore running back Jeremiah Bryson to improve his game in the future. His combination of speed, agility, and shifty moves will make him one of the top running backs in the state for the next few seasons.
