He was very excited about the offer and extremely impressed with the program. He said, "The facilities were awesome, the new stadium is going to be ridiculous, and their weight room and locker room was definitely division one. The facilities were better than some of the SEC schools I've visited."
This was not his first trip to campus check things out. He explained, "I've been up for a junior day and my dad and I visited once. The coach said he really liked me and kept sending me letters. He asked me to come to camp so I went and he liked me and they offered."
In addition to the new facilities Conway really was impressed by the coaches. He commented, "The coaches are really good. The offensive line coach, Coach Walter Wells, is someone you really want to work hard for and do not want to disappoint. The head coach, Coach David Elson, seems to know a lot about coaching and the campus."
The recruiting of Conway could end up being a Sun Belt showdown. He already has one offer from Sun Belt rival Middle Tennessee, but he said of Western Kentucky, "I could definitely see myself playing there."
After a busy camp circuit which included visits to Tennessee, Mississippi State, Auburn, Middle Tennessee, and Western Kentucky things appear to be slowing down on the camp circuit. He explained, "I am finished with camps for this summer and I am going to concentrate on my team and getting ready for the season."
Conway has high expectations for the Irish in 2008. He said, "I think we are going to be pretty good. We definitely have as shot of going to the playoffs and we'll have to see after that."
He said of the team's first day of practice, "It was really hot and the offensive practice was pretty hard. It will take a couple of days to get used to it, but overall it was pretty good."
