Checking In With Alex Bullard

In the middle of recruiting season landing an early commitment is huge. Find out how important Alex Bullard, 6-4, 275 pound guard from Brentwood-Brentwood Academy (Tenn.) will be to the 2009 Notre Dame signing class. Learn more about his new approach to recruiting as commitment.

An early decision seemed to be the best idea for Alex Bullard, 6-4, 275 pound guard from Brentwood-Brentwood Academy (Tenn.). Bullard said, "I chose Notre Dame because it was a good school that was a fit for me. With the great tradition up there, the academics, the prestige, and the football program it seemed like the best place for me. The way the campus has smaller classrooms and smaller population it seemed like the best fit for me."

With close to twenty total offers Bullard knew it was time to make his decision after his visit to Notre Dame. He explained, "I felt like it was time for me to make a decision because I knew where I wanted to go. I wanted to get rid of all of the distractions that go along with the recruiting process."

"Things have calmed down a lot. I really don't talk to any other coaches, but I still get letters." said Bullard of the recruiting process. He added, "It's refreshing because it feels like a burden off your shoulder. I am just happy to be a member of the Irish Family."

He will make his way up to South Bend this fall to check out his new school. He commented, "I plan on taking an official visit to the Michigan game."

Often when a player goes from a prospect to a commitment he starts to become familiar with the other commitments. Bullard explained, "I talk to Tyler Stockton and Jake Golic all the time. Earlier I talked to Chris Watt and he committed recently. I keep in touch with a lot of my future teammates. We are building a close bond so when we get up there we will be that much better."

Another role taken on often by commitments is to help other prospects in the recruiting process. Bullard may be a valuable asset for the Irish as he commented, "I am working on my teammates. I have a lot of prospects on my team and I'm going to encourage them to give Notre Dame a look. I talk to Thad McHaney about it some." Bullard added, "I'm trying to get in touch with Marlon Brown because I know he is interested in Notre Dame. We all want the best for the Irish and trying to put the best recruiting class together."

Bullard looks forward to a big senior season in 2008. He commented, "Getting back to the state championship and winning it first and foremost. Second, we go down to Prattville, Alabama and play them on ESPN, so that will be a big atmosphere down in Alabama. I'm really excited about that." His team finished as runner up in the state championship game in 2007, but he hopes his team can change that outcome this season.
